Formerly this place used to have a limestone layer with tens of meters thick above the ground at the foot of the group. After millions of years, they were exposed to the elements and cracked, washed and gradually disappeared.

Ancient Dong Van Town

Located at the centre of Dong Van District, the vestige consists of the market and the two Quyet Tien and Dong Tam villages of Dong Van Commune. During the French colonial time, the town was a regional business center, in particular the opium trade attracting traders from China and the Red River Delta. In 1923 a big fire destroyed the town and the French then rebuilt the market. The general architecture of houses here shows many common features e.g.:
